Microsoft suspends sales and services in Russia

(RTTNews) – Software giant Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) announced on Friday that it has suspended all sales and services in Russia, in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Like the rest of the world, we are horrified, angered and saddened by the images and news coming from the war in Ukraine and condemn this unwarranted, unprovoked and unlawful invasion by Russia,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith. , in a press release.

“We are announcing today that we will suspend all new sales of Microsoft products and services in Russia.”

“In addition, we are coordinating and working closely with the governments of the United States, European Union and United Kingdom, and are shutting down many aspects of our business in Russia in accordance with government sanctions decisions,” he added.

Smith also revealed that Microsoft was able to act against Russian efforts to destroy or disrupt more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial industry organizations since the war began.

“We also acted on cyberattacks targeting several additional civilian sites. We have publicly raised concerns that these attacks on civilians violate the Geneva Convention,” Smith said.
