AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Texas Association of Business (TAB) announced today that Governor Greg Abbott will be the keynote speaker for the “Best Companies to Work For in Texas” gala on October 4.e. The Governor will also receive the first Guardian of Capitalism Award, in recognition of his unprecedented contributions to the Texas business community.
“We are honored to have Governor Abbott headlining this year’s gala, where we will announce the ranking of the best companies to work for in Texas,” said Glenn Hamer, CEO of TAB. “The Lone Star State is the epicenter of economic development, and no one in our state has done more to help businesses succeed than Governor Greg Abbott. ”
Under the leadership of Governor Abbott of the world’s ninth-largest economy, Texas has been named “Best State for Business” by CEO magazine 17 years in a row and won Site Selection magazine’s “Governor’s Cup”, awarded to the ‘State with the award most new economic development projects, a record nine consecutive years. During his tenure as governor, the Lone Star State created more than a million new jobs. He was also named “Best Governor in the Nation” in 2020.
In the 87th Legislative Session, the Governor signed meaningful pro-business legislation, adding COVID liability protections for Texas employers; protect business owners from paying franchise taxes on PPP loans used to pay their employees; expand broadband access; authorize restaurants with the appropriate permits to sell take-out alcohol; and protect businesses with commercial vehicles from malicious prosecution. Before being elected 48th Governor of the State of Texas, he was the longest-serving attorney general in Texas.
