As fully commissioned peace officers, game wardens are responsible for enforcing Texas laws statewide, including water safety, protection of natural resources, and management of the ‘environment. Unconstrained by city or county jurisdictions, Texas Game Rangers patrol the state’s natural waterways, oversee the regulation of hunting and fishing, and often support local landowners. “The Texas Game Wardens have a long and proud tradition of protecting and conserving the state’s precious natural resources. This includes our waterways, landscapes and the wildlife that we enjoy on a daily basis, ”said Colonel Chad Jones, TPWD Director of Law Enforcement, who stressed that the role of a game warden goes to- beyond the badge. “Not only are game wardens trained in a number of specialist areas such as search and rescue and disaster response, but we are also members of the community. We’re in our neighborhoods to host fishing events, educate boaters, and encourage another generation of Texans to enjoy and preserve the outdoors.
All cadets who are accepted into the program must live at the Game Warden Training Center near Hamilton, Texas for the duration of the 33-week training period, which is to begin in October 2022. Watch this video summarizing the training experience Texas Game Warden.
