Want to be a Texas Game Ranger? The deadline to apply is October 8


Do you have a love of the outdoors and a desire to help others? Maybe a profession as a game ranger in Texas is right for you. In early September, it was announced that the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) was accepting applications for their 65th Class Texas Game Warden Cadet. The deadline for submitting your application is quickly coming to an end.

For those who wish to become a game ranger in Texas, applications are accepted until October 8. Applicants must be 21 years of age and have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. For a list of requirements, please visit the TPWD Game Warden Recruitment webpage

As fully commissioned peace officers, game wardens are responsible for enforcing Texas laws statewide, including water safety, protection of natural resources, and management of the ‘environment. Unconstrained by city or county jurisdictions, Texas Game Rangers patrol the state’s natural waterways, oversee the regulation of hunting and fishing, and often support local landowners. More widely known are the specialized skills that have made it a reliable resource for disaster response.

“The Texas Game Wardens have a long and proud tradition of protecting and conserving the state’s precious natural resources. This includes our waterways, landscapes and the wildlife that we enjoy on a daily basis, ”said Colonel Chad Jones, TPWD Director of Law Enforcement, who stressed that the role of a game warden goes to- beyond the badge. “Not only are game wardens trained in a number of specialist areas such as search and rescue and disaster response, but we are also members of the community. We’re in our neighborhoods to host fishing events, educate boaters, and encourage another generation of Texans to enjoy and preserve the outdoors.

All cadets who are accepted into the program must live at the Game Warden Training Center near Hamilton, Texas for the duration of the 33-week training period, which is to begin in October 2022. Watch this video summarizing the training experience Texas Game Warden.
